Kgs. Lyngby (DTU campus) · Independent foundation
Andelskollegiet DTU — AKDTU — is one of only four andelskollegier known to exist in Denmark. Unlike a standard student dorm, it operates as a housing cooperative: residents do not rent their apartments in the conventional sense but purchase a share (andel) in the association, which grants the right to occupy one of the 72 apartments. The model was chosen deliberately to give students genuine ownership stakes and long-term security at affordable prices.
AKDTU completed construction in autumn 2006 and sits in the fourth quadrant of DTU's Lyngby campus at Kollegiebakken 19. The 72 apartments come in three sizes — Type A (30 m²), Type B (40 m²), and Type C (50 m²) — all resident-managed through a board elected entirely from among the andelshavers. A 110 m² communal house with a party kitchen, projector, and speaker system anchors community life.
The waiting list runs through Waitly and typically exceeds one year. All communication from the board is in Danish, so prospective residents should plan accordingly. Apply at akdtu.dk.
AKDTU is an andelsboligforening and operates under Danish cooperative housing law (AB92 / andelsboligloven), not standard rental law.
North of Copenhagen, centered around the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). A quieter suburban area with green spaces and easy S-train access to the city.
