Østerbro · Independent foundation
In 1908, industrialist Gustav Adolph Hagemann opened a college on Kristianiagade 10 in Østerbro with the motto "Serve others, and you will be served" above the door. At the time, G. A. Hagemanns Kollegium was among the most progressive in Denmark: male and female students were admitted from the outset, side by side, at a period when this was far from the norm. The vestibule, decorated by artist J.F. Willumsen, gives an immediate sense of the ambition Hagemann brought to his gift.
Today 61 residents — two-thirds of them DTU students — share full-board communal life including daily meals, sports, cultural evenings, and a rich calendar of traditions. A memorial plaque in the entrance hall records alumni who fell during the Second World War, when the building served briefly as a wartime lazaret. A dedicated fremleje form on gahk.dk allows subtenants to apply for rooms during residents' study-abroad periods at 5,616 DKK/month, meals included.
- Gateway: Motivated application following a guided tour. The admissions committee ("indstillingen") — four current residents — handles all contacts.
- Process:
1. Request a tour by completing the form on gahk.dk/optagelse/ansoeg. The committee contacts applicants if rooms are expected to become available and the profile fits.
2. After the tour, the applicant receives an application form and submits a written motivated application.
- Eligibility: Must have started at least the 3rd semester of a longer higher education programme (e.g., DTU, KU, SDU, AU, AAU, RUC, CBS, KA).
- DTU bias: 2/3 of rooms are reserved for DTU students; in certain periods only DTU students are admitted.
- Language: Danish strongly preferred ("dansktalende") to enable full participation in daily life.
- Room allocation timing: Largest turnover 3 months after summer exam season (September–October); also at Christmas.
- Rent: 5,616 DKK/month including meals, heating, and water (fuld pension).
- Contact: gahk.dk.
