Amager (near DR Byen / Amager Fælled) · Kollegiernes Kontor i København (KKIK)
Grønjordskollegiet sits at the edge of Amager Fælled, Copenhagen's protected urban commons, and its five eight-storey blocks — numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, because a residents' revolt stopped the planned sixth tower — house 920 rooms for roughly 1,000 students. Built between 1969 and 1970 and run by the housing organisation FA09, the kollegium has a distinctive activism in its DNA: in the early 1970s residents successfully blocked plans to build ten identical blocks on the surrounding meadow. Today the site is greener than ever — solar panels on all rooftops since 2015 save half a million kroner a year in electricity. The metro DR-Byen station is literally 200 metres from the front door, putting Nørreport seven minutes away. Each room has its own bathroom; kitchens are shared by 11–12 neighbours per floor. The bar Hatten and annual Oktoberfest in October are kollegium fixtures.
