Kampsax Kollegiet owes its name and its existence to a single act of corporate generosity. In 1967 the Danish engineering firm Kampmann, Kierulff & Saxild A/S — known to a generation of engineers simply as "Kampsax" — celebrated its fiftieth anniversary by donating the entire year's profit, two million kroner, toward student housing on the DTU campus. The buildings that rose on Kollegiebakken in 1969–70, designed by the architect pair Eva and Nils Koppel, have housed engineering and science students ever since. PKS (Polyteknisk KollegieSelskab) has operated the 521 single rooms throughout that period, and a comprehensive renovation completed between 2022 and 2025 brought the buildings fully up to modern standards. Residents wishing to sublet must follow PKS rules: a minimum six months of residency before subletting, a maximum six-month sublet term, and a subtenant who is both under 30 and eligible for Danish SU. All sublets require written approval from PKS in advance.
