Østerbro Kollegiet has had a more eventful life than almost any student residence in Copenhagen. The five-storey building on Strynøgade was put up in 1954 as a parking garage; by the mid-2000s it had been converted into student accommodation, and in October 2009 the University of Copenhagen took a thirteen-year lease on all 102 rooms, running them as housing for exchange students until October 2022. That month, the building changed hands entirely: VIGA Real Estate acquired it for roughly 198 million kroner and announced plans to renovate and relaunch it as micro-living apartments. The 28–48 square-metre rooms and an energy label of B give some sense of the existing fabric. The location — close to Fælledparken, Copenhagen's largest urban park, and within cycling distance of both the Østerport S-tog and the Trianglen metro — remains one of the most desirable in the city.
