About Østerbro Kollegiet

Østerbro Kollegiet has had a more eventful life than almost any student residence in Copenhagen. The five-storey building on Strynøgade was put up in 1954 as a parking garage; by the mid-2000s it had been converted into student accommodation, and in October 2009 the University of Copenhagen took a thirteen-year lease on all 102 rooms, running them as housing for exchange students until October 2022. That month, the building changed hands entirely: VIGA Real Estate acquired it for roughly 198 million kroner and announced plans to renovate and relaunch it as micro-living apartments. The 28–48 square-metre rooms and an energy label of B give some sense of the existing fabric. The location — close to Fælledparken, Copenhagen's largest urban park, and within cycling distance of both the Østerport S-tog and the Trianglen metro — remains one of the most desirable in the city. Anyone interested in Østerbro Kollegiet should contact VIGA Real Estate directly to establish whether the renovation is complete and letting has resumed.

How to apply

Status unknown post-VIGA acquisition. Check vigarealestate.dk or contact VIGA directly for current information. Do not use old KU/CIU application routes.

Sublet rules

Unknown under current VIGA ownership. Previous KU-era contracts were fixed-term exchange student lets with no subletting pathway. Future rules depend on VIGA's completed renovation and new letting model.
