Copenhagen SV (Carlsberg / Sydhavn) · Independent foundation
Rising eleven storeys above the Carlsberg rail tracks since 1957, Otto Mønsteds Kollegium is one of Copenhagen's most recognisable student towers. The building was founded by the Otto Mønsted Foundation and designed in French futurist style — the architectural doctrine that tall buildings free the ground for everyone — which explains why the tower stands 27 metres over the flat Copenhagen SV skyline. The 307 rooms are each around 12 square metres of net living space; each of the 20 shared kitchens serves roughly 15–16 residents and develops its own culture of birthday breakfasts, dinner clubs and traditions. The kollegium nicknames itself "Margarinekollegiet" after its founder's OMA margarine empire.
Carlsberg Station is directly below, giving fast connections to Vesterbro and the city centre. Vestre Kirkegård — one of Copenhagen's most atmospheric parks — is visible from the garden. The annual Otto Festival brings musicians to the courtyard each summer. Note: as of early 2026 the top three floors are undergoing structural repairs following an evacuation.
Sydhavn / Carlsberg area — a newly developed district along the harbor with the redeveloped Carlsberg Byen. Walking distance to Vesterbro and central station.
