Amager · Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS)
Before students moved in, Stads Kollegium's 1950s building was occupied by BASF, the industrial giant that manufactured the cassette tapes and vinyl LPs that filled Danish living rooms for decades. When the offices emptied, Gefion Group undertook a full renovation completed in 2020, gutting and rebuilding the interiors while preserving the building's solid mid-century structure. The resulting kollegium has 39 apartments across five stairwells, housing 153 students in a setting that still carries a certain purposeful, unfussy character.
The building's standout feature is its rooftop: multiple common terrace areas offer views across Copenhagen's spires and towers, making the top floors a natural gathering point. The apartments are organised around shared kitchens and bathrooms, with unmöblerede private rooms ranging widely in size (8–19 m² net). DIS assigns rooms without taking price preferences into account, so the community reflects a genuine mix of backgrounds and study disciplines.
The location is precisely in the triangle where three distinct Copenhagen atmospheres converge: Stadsgraven's leafy embankment walks to the immediate north, Islands Brygge's harbour life a short cycle west, and Amagerbrogade's busy commercial strip to the east. Both Islands Brygge and Amagerbro Metro stations are within easy reach, covering the full M1/M2 network.
South of the city center, home to Copenhagen University's main campus (KUA) and the IT University (ITU). Close to the metro, the beach at Amager Strandpark, and the airport.
