Rules and responsibilities for using KollegieSwap
Essential cookies only — no tracking
Browsing rooms and creating a profile on KollegieSwap is completely free. Every student can apply to up to 3 rooms at no cost. If you need unlimited applications — for example, if you are searching across multiple kollegier in Copenhagen at the same time — you can upgrade to a Plus subscription. There is no charge for subleasers to list their room. Messaging between matched students is also free. KollegieSwap never charges a commission or finder's fee on any sublet agreement.
KollegieSwap is open to any student with a valid Danish student email. We auto-verify the following institution types: Universities (universiteter) — KU (Københavns Universitet), DTU (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, Lyngby), CBS (Copenhagen Business School, Frederiksberg), ITU (IT-Universitetet i København, Amager), AAU (Aalborg Universitet, with Copenhagen campus), SDU (Syddansk Universitet, with Copenhagen presence), RUC (Roskilde Universitet); Professionshøjskoler (university colleges) — KP (Københavns Professionshøjskole); Erhvervsakademier (business / professional academies) — KEA (Københavns Erhvervsakademi), IBA (International Business Academy), Erhvervsakademi Sjælland (EASJ); Art, design, and music institutions — KADK (Det Kongelige Akademi), Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium, Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium. International students studying in Copenhagen are verified through their home university's institutional email via the Swot library (open-source database of academic domains).
Every user on KollegieSwap must verify their identity through a university email before they can post a listing or apply for a room. Danish university emails are verified instantly; international emails are checked against a global academic database. We also recommend always viewing the room in person before signing any contract or paying any deposit. Be cautious of anyone who asks for payment before a viewing — this is a common scam tactic in Copenhagen housing groups. Our verification system significantly reduces fraud compared to Facebook groups and classified sites.
No. KollegieSwap does not process, hold, or handle any rent payments or deposits. All financial transactions happen directly between the subleaser and the subtenant, typically via Danish bank transfer (overførsel) or MobilePay. This is the standard arrangement for subletting in Denmark. We strongly recommend never paying via cash, Western Union, cryptocurrency, or gift cards. Always get a written receipt for your deposit and keep records of all payments. Lejeloven sets the legal limits on what a subleaser may charge — see our How-it-works guide for the § 157 vs § 158 rules.
Yes. Nearly all Copenhagen kollegier require written approval from the dorm administration before subletting can begin. Subletting without approval can result in termination of your lease. The process typically involves submitting a subletting application form (provided by your dorm), a copy of the subletting contract signed by both parties, and proof that the subtenant is a full-time student. Processing times vary by dorm but usually take one to two weeks. Contact your kollegium administration office early to learn their specific requirements and deadlines.
